International Water Association President, Mr Tom Mollenkopf, has been elected to serve a second term in his role. Mollenkopf, an Australian water expert, was first elected in Lisbon in October 2019 and took office in May 2021 due to a delay caused by the pandemic, taking over from former President Diane D’Arras.

Tom commented: “It is a great honour to be elected as IWA President for a second term. I appreciate the trust and confidence shown to me – and I am excited by the opportunity to lead IWA at such a critical time.”

The International Water Association’s Governing Assembly met for the 2021 IWA Annual General Meeting on 27 October. During the meeting, voting was held for the position of IWA President. Mr Tom Mollenkopf, the current President, was elected to serve for a second term, running from the IWA 2022 World Water Congress & Exhibition, taking place in Copenhagen next September, and concluding at the end of the 2024 World Water Congress & Exhibition.

Tom adds: “Organisationally, I will be focussed on ensuring IWA emerges from the COVID-19 disruptions stronger and more influential. The world needs skilled and innovative leadership in water matters if we are to meet the great challenges confronting us: the impacts of climate change; the unmet needs of billions of people for sanitation and safe drinking water; and social, political and technological disruption.  

As an international organisation with a rich mix of skills, languages and culture, IWA has immense capability – and responsibility – to be a creator of knowledge and a global voice for water. I look forward to working with the world’s water professionals to deliver on that promise.”
